Travis Air Force Base in Fairfield was all set to put a modern twist on the 4th of July. However, the much anticipated drone show that was expected to replace the traditional fireworks show had to be postponed due to high winds.

The Intel Shooting Star drone light show was rescheduled for tonight (Thursday) at 9 p.m, although only those with the Department of Defense and their families are allowed to view the show from the base.

However, according to KCRA, the drones can be seen up to three miles away with the best viewing to the west of Travis Air Force Base.

The Air Force Base had been working with Intel to replace explosives with 500 drones to celebrate the 4th, and Travis Air Force Base’s 75th anniversary with a choreographed aerial display honoring active military and veterans. The display will use the same Intel Shooting Star drones seen at the Superbowl and the Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.
