The Most Mispronounced Word of 2021 is…..

A company that does closed-captioning for newscasters polled them to see what words they had the most trouble pronouncing this year. Here’s what topped their list:

1. “Cheugy” (CHOO-gee) A Gen Z term for things that are unfashionable or outdated.

2. “Chipotle” (chih-POHT-lay) A lot of people pronounce it chih-POLT-ee.

3. “Dogecoin” (DOHJ-coin) A lot of people thought it was “DOGGY coin” at first.

4. “Eilish,” as in Billie Eilish. It’s pronounced EYE-lish

5. “Dalgona” (tal-goh-NAH): A Korean treat made with melted sugar and baking soda

6. “Glasgow” (GLAHZ-go) You’re not supposed to pronounce the “W” at the end…or say “GLASS-go”, like I have been. lol

7. “Omicron.” Still some debate about this one. A poll last week found “OH-muh-cron” is the most popular, followed by “OH-me-cron” and “OH-my-cron.”
