A student at Southern New Hampshire University failed an assignment because her professor didn’t know Australia was a country. Seriously.
Ashley Arnold, 27, is currently pursuing an online degree in sociology. Her final project was to pick a country to compare the social norms with those of the U.S. Ashley wrote about Australia. When she received her graded paper, she was surprised to see that she got an F. The reason was that her professor believed Australia is a continent and not a country.

Ashley told BuzzFeed:
“I was in shock. It was the most ridiculous thing ever. Part me thinks this is a joke but it’s real life, she is totally for real. I was like, ‘I did not get this wrong, right?’ It made me doubtful for a second. Thankfully, the facts were on my side.”
Ashley rightfully emailed her professor, sending the link to Australia.gov’s “About Australia” section.
Update: I sent her the link to Australia.gov and got this reply. At least we are making progress 😂

After her professor did some “independent research,” Ashley’s grade finally got changed from an F to a B+.
