Spice Girls member Mel B had a scary accident this weekend. It was so bad, she reportedly “severed” her hand and had to undergo emergency surgery…

According to TMZ, the singer posted a photo early Monday morning with the surprising news.

Thankyou to all the wonderful nurses dr’s and my amazing surgeon for the care and expertise given to me here at the hospital I’ve been staying at,suffering 2 broken ribs a severed right hand needing emergancy care,to having had to have over a 3 hr surgery to repair the damage hence the purple sling,I’ve had to unfortunately cancel my book signing today in NY,I appolagise to each and everyone one of you who bought there tickets to meet me today😩I’m absolutely gutted but I can assure you it WILL happen at a later date,I promise,but for now My right arm/hand is all stitched up and I’m trying to keep still to heal my broken ribs,ohhh the pain,but I’m in super safe hands with the care of everyone here at the hospital!!!!!thank you all for understanding,I love you all #accidentshappen #needtimetoheal #hospital

A close friend to Mel, Gary Madatyan, further described what happened. He explained that Mel B was sleeping at a friend’s house on Saturday when she woke up suddenly in the middle of the night. Deciding to go downstairs, the pop star stumbled on a narrow staircase and fell all the way down to the bottom.

Outside of the injury to her hand, the accident also left her with two broken ribs. Thankfully though, her hand appears to be reattached and doing okay based on the photos she’s posting.

While in the hospital, the singer received a visit from some of her fellow Spice Girls, and they took a group photo together. The four are getting ready to go on a U.K. tour next summer, minus Victoria Beckham (aka Posh Spice).
