Rick Moranis was the star of the Honey I Shrunk The Kids franchise. A rising star in his day, with hit films, memorable TV apeparances and a theme park attraction under his belt. The sky seemed to be the limit for the actor. Until a tragedy struck his family.

I covered that (and the theme park attraction) in a 2017 podcast entitled “Honey I Shrunk The Audience,” you can hear that here

“In 1997, Moranis stepped away from on-screen acting work to raise his kids,” this according to an article in Deadline. While Moranis quietly did some voice-over work over the years, he stayed out of the public eye and focused on being a Dad.

Now that the kiddos are grown up, Rick is back! The Deadline article continues, “the SCTV alum (…) has closed a deal to return to the next Honey, I Shrunk the Kids sequel Shrunk. The movie will be made for the theatrical side, not Disney+.

The film franchise’s director Joe Johnston will be back, with Josh Gad also starring. The movie centers on Gad’s character, who is the son of Moranis’ Wayne Szalinski, and is aspiring to be a great scientist like his father but accidentally shrinks the kids.”
