According to Entertainment Weekly, Monoghan announced his involvement with the film by teasing a picture alongside a Star Wars quote on social media. This information joins previous cast announcements that Billy Dee Williams and Mark Hamill would also be reappearing in the next installment of the franchise. Director, J.J. Abrams, is also returning as director for the new Star Wars film.

No official statement has been made yet, by Lucasfilm or Disney, regarding Monaghan’s casting. The acting was quoted, however, saying: “The galaxy far far away has had almost as much influence as the one I live in, so I am delighted to be involved.” It is still unknown as to what kind of character Monaghan will be playing, and what his role will be in the upcoming film.
