One of California’s quirkiest festivals, Isleton’s SPAM Festival, is this Saturday. SPAM-tossing, SPAM-eating, and SPAM-cooking will all be part of the festivities, so if you’ve ever wanted to try SPAM fudge or share your best SPAM recipe, this is the place!

The festival is a celebration of survival. After massive floods hit Isleton in 1996, SPAM was one of the only food items in people’s pantries that survived. People started using it in creative recipes. You can taste some of these SPAM creations at the festival for a $5 tasting fee, otherwise it’s free to get in and watch the competition.

The Contest starts at 10 a.m. with cooking. The judging begins at noon with tasting to follow. The SPAM toss and SPAM-eating contest will happen in between. the festival ends between 4-5 p.m. Entry forms can be filled out same day or e-mail janrwdelrio@yahoo.com for the form or more info
