Do you think this is creepy or cool? Alexa can now mimic the voice of anyone, including a dead loved one. All the system needs is about a minute of audio. This technology is similar to AI that was used to give actor Val Kilmer, who lost his voice to throat cancer, a speaking voice for the new “Top Gun: Maverick” film.

Amazon says they hope Alexa’s new skills can be helpful for the many people who lost loved ones during the pandemic. A spokesperson says, “While AI can’t eliminate the pain of loss, it can make those relationships last.”

Another new update coming to Alexa is “conversation mode,” which means you don’t have to say “Hey, Alexa” to continue conversing with the device. You simply say it once, and you can continue to ask Alexa questions or make requests.
