While ABC officially cancelled Roseanne on Tuesday, May 29th, the show may come back again via a spin-off. However, instead of focusing on the title character played by Roseanne Barr, this new show will be about Sara Gilbert’s character, Darlene.

According to TMZ, Gilbert has reportedly been calling cast members to see if they would return for the new show. While there is no word official word on their reactions, TMZ learned that John Goodman has a lot of interest. Sources are also revealing that Tom Warner, whose company produced Roseanne, is part of the effort to reboot the show with Sara Gilbert as the focus.

On top of that, ABC is reportedly trying their hardest to find jobs for those affected by the show’s cancellation. Of the 300 to 400 that lost their jobs, the writers and crew are likely suffering the most. Sadly, the cancellation came at the worst possible time for them as most other shows have already finished hiring for the upcoming TV season, according to the LA Times.

Ed Brown, a representative for Local 44 of the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, explained the frustration:

“This has got to have severe impact on the people working on that show. They knew they were working on the No. 1-rated show in America. They were already making plans, maybe upgrading their homes or purchasing that one luxury item they’ve been saving up for all these years. They had a sense of security…. Now they’re in complete in shock mode.”

Unfortunately, it will probably be quite a while before a new show gets off the ground.
