Enormous rating and an apology couldn’t save ‘Roseanne’

TMZ is reporting that ABC is cancelling ‘Roseanne’ – one of the network’s biggest hits of the season – just hours after Roseanne Barr posted a tweet about former Obama aide Valerie Jarrett saying, “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes had a baby=vj.”
ABC issued the following statement, “Roseanne’s twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show.”
Wanda Sykes, who is a good friend of Jarrett instantly quit the show as a result of Barr’s tweet. Sara Gilbert also tweeted, “This is incredibly sad and difficult for all of us, as we’ve created a show that we believe in, are proud of, and that audiences love — one that is separate and apart from the opinions and words of one cast member.”
The show premiered with phenomenal ratings, and was renewed for Season 2 just days after the debut.
