Fan Bingbing, one of the most famous actresses in China, has gone missing since July.
The 36-year-old gained a wide American following starring as Blink in X-Men: Days of Future Past. The Hollywood Reporter notes that Fan hasn’t been seen in public since July 1. She also stopped posting on her social media outlets on July 23.
The actress’ disappearance follows reports of her tax evasion. She allegedly misreported her income to the Chinese government in order to avoid paying the heavy taxes on high paying actors. Fan is currently the highest-earning actress in the country.
The Chinese government, however, has made a point in the past to limit celebrity earnings. The government believes that it sends the wrong message to the country’s youth and celebrates “‘money worship’ instead of ‘core socialist values.'”
Fan’s representatives have yet to respond to inquires.
