Why Arden Fair Mall Is Suing Starbucks

The owners of Arden Fair mall, Arden Fair Associates LP, are suing former tenant Starbucks Corp. for breach of contract. 

According to the Sacramento mall owners, Starbucks closed its store at the mall on January 22, 2021, but did not formally surrender possession of the space until Feb. 16, 2022. The Seattle-based coffee company allegedly failed to meet its obligations under their rental agreement, closing its business a little over a year early. 

More recently, Starbucks closed 16 stores in the U.S., including its Land Park location at Broadway and 15th street due to “safety concerns.”
