Did you know that Sacramento has a haunted mansion? It’s also one of the oldest homes in Sacramento.

Built in 1856, the Leland Stanford Mansion, at 8th & N Streets has long been rumored to be haunted. The house has definitely seen its share of sadness and tragedy over the years. It was once an orphanage and a hospital during the 1918 Spanish flu pandemic. It is now a museum and while California State Parks won’t officially say it’s haunted, some have seen lights flicker, doors mysteriously slamming shut, and other things that can’t be explained.

To celebrate spooky season, the mansion is opening its doors for visitors. You’ll see Halloween decorations throughout the rooms and hear stories that may include some “supernatural surprises.”

Evening tours are all booked up, but between now and October 31, daytime reservations are available, on a first-come, first-served basis.
Just show up bewtween 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. for a free tour. Costumes are encouraged. Get all the details here and if you encounter a ghost, let us know!
