Gilberto Escamilla may now be serving the longest sentence for a fajita-related crime in history.
According to The Shade Room, Escamilla recently received a 50 years prison sentence for stealing a lot of fajitas.
And by a lot, we mean $1.2 million worth of the Mexican food…
However, he wasn’t just eating the fajitas, he was also selling them for profit! This is how it worked:
Escamilla would have the Mexican food delivered to Darrel B Hester Juvenile Detention Center in Texas. As an employee at the facility, he would then collect the shipment of fajitas and sell them for his own gain. However, he only got caught when he decided to take a sick day. When the center’s meat supplier called to confirm an 880 pound order of fajitas, another employee answered the phone in his place, according to Sky News. As fajitas were not on the menu at the facility, the order immediately raised suspicions. In one final twist, management later discovered that he had been carrying out the fajitas scheme for at least nine years.
