The Sacramento restaurant owner who got help from Celebrity Chef Gordon Ramsay over the weekend says she’s rejecting the new menu offered to her as part of a reality show makeover. Last weekend Ramsay was in town for a 24 hour makeover of Sacramento’s soul food restaurant Sandra Dee’s Bar-B-Que & Seafood. The make over is for his new Fox Show, “Gordon Ramsay’s 24 Hours to Hell & Back.” The basic concept is Ramsay swoops in and tries to save struggling restaurants.
Sandra Dee admits her restaurant has been struggling since it opened 19 years ago, but said yesterday she is rejecting the menu offered by Gordon Ramsay! She says she didn’t apply to be on the show, but that she was contacted at various points over the years by a few networks. She says it’s been very emotional and that her customers do not want her to change her menu. She says she’s Creole and that she doesn’t know how to cook without spice.
So what did Ramsay suggest? A very stripped-down menu without some of restaurant’s staples of tri-tip and ribs and less seafood. Including appetizers and desserts, the newly offered Ramsay menu only offers eight items.
Sandra Dee returned to her old menu on Tuesday, though she said she will incorporate some of his changes. She says she also has mixed feelings about the updated décor. Either way, the attention she’s been getting because of the show is good for business, with customers also offering mixed reactions to the changes.
