Sacramento Area Food Banks Desperately Need Volunteers
As more families reach out for help, more volunteers are needed

Food Banks have been struggling to keep up with increasing demand. Not because of a lack of generosity, but a lack of volunteers. If you’ve been looking for a way to give back, there is no shortage of places that could use your help.
- River City Food Bank – serves people from two locations: Midtown and Arden/Arcade
- Sacramento Food Bank and Family Services – also partners with Arcade Church, Daughters of Zion Enterpryz, and Orangevale-Fair Oaks Food Bank – all need volunteers
- South Sacramento Interfaith Partnership Food Closet – could use your help distributing and/or picking up donations from local stores
- Elk Grove Food Bank Services – has an urgent need to fill volunteer slots
- St. Philomene Catholic Church – operates a food closet on Mondays and Tuesdays
- Cathedral of the Blessed Sacrament – volunteers distribute brown bag lunches in front of the cathedral Tuesday through Friday mornings
While Volunteers are crucial, you also have much to gain by offering your time. Volunteering can help you make friends, learn new skills, advance your career, and even feel happier and healthier.
