In honor of fallen police officers, Officer Natalie Corona and Officer Tara O’Sullivan, a special run from Davis to Sacramento is being held.

According to KCRA 3, dozens of first responders are involved with the event. The run started at the Davis Police Department on Wednesday morning, and stretches 30-miles with six separate legs. The event will then conclude at the Sacramento Police Academy in Sacramento, where both Corona and O’Sullivan graduated from.

This run was reportedly conceived by an emergency room nurse at the UC Davis Medical Center who treated the officers. Individuals taking part in the race have shared that this race is an opportunity for first responders to stand united. One runner, Tamara Thompson, is a Sacramento State student who is training to become an officer. “We are a tight-knit community, and we do care about each other,” Thompson shared. “I hope this shows that there are positive people out there.”

The run started at 6:22 a.m., representing Corona’s age. It will end at 12:26 p.m. in honor of O’Sullivan’s age.
