Peter Jackson To Direct Beatles Documentary Of ‘Let It Be’ Recordings
Peter Jackson will be directing a new documentary film about The Beatles, which will feature restored footage of their ‘Let It Be’ recording session.

Peter Jackson has signed on to direct a documentary film, focusing on The Beatles recording session for Let It Be.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Jackson will be using 55 hours of footage never-before-released, featuring The Beatles in the recording process. The film is reportedly being produced by Jackson’s WingNut Films and Apple Corps. The companies have stated that the project also has the full support of Sir Paul McCartney, Sir Ringo Starr, Yoko Ono Lennon and Olivia Harrison.
Jackson will be utilizing similar techniques for this film, that he also used in his recent WWI documentary, They Shall Not Grow Old. These digital techniques allowed Jackson and his crew to restore the old film footage of WWI soldiers, into bright and colored picture with vivid detail. This will reportedly allow Jackson to restore and enhance the 16mm film, that the Let It Be footage was shot on.

When asked about the project, Jackson voiced his excitement and the things he has learned watching the old footage. “After reviewing all the footage and audio that Michael Lindsay-Hogg shot 18 months before they broke up, it’s simply an amazing historical treasure-trove,” Jackson shared. “Sure, there’s moments of drama — but none of the discord this project has long been associated with. Watching John, Paul, George and Ringo work together, creating now-classic songs from scratch, is not only fascinating — it’s funny, uplifting and surprisingly intimate.”
“This movie will be the ultimate ‘fly-on-the-wall’ experience that Beatles fans have long dreamt about,” Jackson continued. “It’s like a time machine transports us back to 1969, and we get to sit in the studio watching these four friends make great music together.”
