The burger chain began popping up in Northern California just a few months ago. Now the famed Shake Shack will be opening in Sacramento’s trendy midtown Ice Blocks at 17th and R streets later this year or early 2020.

The burger joint, which has a cult-like following around the world, is sure to draw a crowd, but why midtown? Why not somewhere a little more easily accessible? Ice Blocks developer Michael Heller told SacTown Magazine, he believes Shake Shack will be a good fit among the farm to fork restaurants.

“For my entire career, I have focused on local creative talent and that will never change, but there are times when mixing in a chain is the right move. We tend to put a negative stigma on chains in general, myself included,” Heller says. “But some of our favorite experiential retailers like West Elm, Peet’s Coffee and Anthropologie, to name a few, are really fantastic additions to any urban core. I think people are going to love what Shake Shack brings to Sacramento.”

Since many of us haven’t had the chance to eat at Shake Shake yet, here is what we can expect. The menu will undoubtedly feature all the Shack classics, including the ShackBurger, crinkle-cut fries and hand-spun shakes, plus a selection of frozen custard concretes.  And since the Shack Shack began as a humble hot dog cart in New York, there are also grilled flat-top hot dogs, a crispy Chick’n Shack sandwich and a vegetarian ’Shroom Burger with a muenster and cheddar cheese stuffed inside a fried portobello mushroom.
