What You Need To Know About Today’s California Primary

California’s primary elections are today. There are five propositions on the ballot as well as several candidates for U.S. Senate, the U.S. House, local state Senate and Assembly races, California Supreme Court, Governor and other local races. In the latest poll from UC Berkeley, the front runner for Governor is Lt. Governor Gavin Newsom with 33 percent support, followed by Republican John Cox with 20 percent support. The top two vote getters in tomorrow primary, regardless of party, will face off in November.
In Sacramento County there are now more than 70 voting centers open which means if you’re a registered voter, you can now cast your vote no matter where you live. You can also drop off your ballot, get a replacement ballot and even fill out a conditional voter registration form and cast a vote.
Also, if you’re wondering if it’s OK to take a ballot selfie, the answer is “yes.” California law was amended in 2016, to allow voters to share photos of their ballots. However, you are NOT ALLOWED to share photos or take pictures of other people voting. You’re also not allowed to share a photo of someone else’s ballot choices without their permission.
