If you’re planning on flying somewhere this Holiday season, today is the day to get your ticket. August 23 is the day when ticket prices tend to start dropping ahead of the holidays.  They should keep falling through the end of the month, then start to go back up in a couple of weeks as people gear up for the holidays. So basically, you have between now and Labor Day to book those flights.

Some other tips to save on your next flight….

Use Google Flights to find the cheapest tickets. They compare all airlines and travel dates to find you the best options.

Consider layovers. Connecting flights and longer layovers are often more affordable than flying direct.

Consider other airports. Many destinations have multiple airports and search engines often miss the smaller ones.

Save With Loyalty Programs. Travellers can often save on flights and fees by using airline loyalty programs.

Pick Flexible Dates. Airline ticket prices vary depending on the day of the week or time of the year. If you can be flexible, flying off-season can save you hundreds of dollars.

Sign up for emails from airlines. Often, they will include discount codes just for their email subscribers. Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines do this several times a year.
