For 104-hours westbound I-80 will be completely closed

This is not a drill!
If your Labor Day plans include heading to the Bay Area, beware. Caltrans is planning a 104-hour complete closure of Westbound Interstate 80 from Thursday August, 31 to Tuesday September, 5.
The Contra Costa paving project will shutdown westbound lanes of I-80 at the I-780 interchange in Vallejo, starting after 9 p.m. on Thursday and lasting until the following Tuesday at 5 a.m.
Traffic will be directed off of westbound I-80 in Vallejo onto eastbound I-780, and continue on southbound I-680 towards Concord. You will then take westbound highway 4 toward Richmond and Hercules, finally merging back with westbound I-80.
It may seem incredibly inconvenient to shutdown the interstate for 4+ days, but according to Caltrans this ambitious closure replaces 9 months of overnight roadwork . ” These closures will allow for concrete pavement in traffic lanes #2 and #3 to be replaced. These closures will shorten the duration of the project by nine months providing improved safety and better ride quality to the public. These series of weekend and holiday I-80 closures will reduce the number of overnight lane closures needed to complete this work this summer instead of completing in late 2024.”
