It’s going to be another blistering weekend in the Sacramento Valley. If you’re planning a beach trip to get away, your trip back is going to get tricky. Caltrans will be closing a 3-mile long stretch of eastbound I-80 beginning Friday night to Monday morning.

This is the second of three weekends Caltrans has planned for a paving project. The next weekend will be August 14th.

Eastbound I-80 will be closed between Hercules and Crockett for 56 hours, from 5 p.m. Friday night to 5 a.m. Monday morning. Traffic will be detoured off of I-80 at highway 4 in Hercules.

If you’re heading to Sacramento from the east bay you’ll exit eastbound I-80 in Hercules and get on eastbound Hwy 4. Continue to northbound 680, cross the Benicia Bridge and stay on 680 until you get back on eastbound I-80 in Fairfield.

Another option is to take Highway 4 to northbound 680. Then head west on 780 and reenter eastbound I-80 in Vallejo.

Traffic got pretty backed up the last time, so be prepared for more significant delays.

During Labor Day weekend Caltrans will start work in the opposite direction.  Westbound I-80 will be fully closed starting Thursday night, August 31 through Tuesday morning, September 5, 2023.
