An alert is being sounded for women to be on alert along Sacramento’s R Street. A man has reportedly been following and harassing women whom work in the area as they walk to their cars. Additionally, some women who live in the neighborhood have reported being followed while walking home.

Flyers are being distributed among the local businesses warning employees about the man. Sara Yampolsky, who works on the R Street corridor tweeted a warning to others to be cautious in the area. Iron Horse Tavern is mentioned in the tweet, so it sounds like this is may be around the revitalized area near 15th street.

According to the flyer the man has popped out from behind trees to follow women leaving work, or trying to force his way into their cars.

“I looked behind me and he was walking behind me pretty quick, so I just took out my taser, just in case,” Yampolsky told ABC10. “And then I crossed the street and then he stopped following me.”

Yampolsky says the man has followed her more than once, making derogatory comments. Women in the area are frightened to walk in the area without an escort.

Several businesses have filed reports with the Sacramento Police Department.

“Our police department is committed to making sure that everybody in the area stays safe and the important message to people in the area is if they have anything suspicious that happens to them, please call contact our police department,” said Sgt. Van Chandler.

If you are in the downtown area, officers recommend you stay in groups, stay alert and call 911 if you see anything suspicious.
