Alex Trebek recently shared the positive update that his battle against cancer has taken an encouraging turn.

According to Vanity Fair, the Jeopardy! host revealed that his doctors have given him the happy news that they believe he is near remission. Trebek had shared the troubling news of his stage IV pancreatic cancer diagnosis, earlier in March. Although he was given the grim statistic of 9% survival rate, Trebek remained determined to stay encouraged and positive. After receiving the positive update from his doctors, he couldn’t help but share his renewed optimism. “It’s kind of mind-boggling,” Trebek said. “The doctors said they hadn’t seen this kind of positive result in their memory . . . some of the tumors have already shrunk by more than 50 percent.”

Although he’s been given this encouraging news, Trebek knows he’s not out of the woods yet. He shared with his fans that he still must undergo several more rounds of chemotherapy, before reaching full remission. Regardless of this fact, however, Trebek was overcome with emotion upon receiving the news. He clarified, saying: “But they were tears of joy, not tears of depression.”

Best of luck to Trebek and his continued recovery!
