We’ve all shaken that one person’s hand that we wish we didn’t have to. Maybe they just came out of the bathroom? Maybe they have cuts or sores? Maybe they just look dirty? Well, according to a new survey reported by Cision, nearly half of us admit that sometimes we try to avoid handshakes because we’re worried about germs. So, we try to avoid them! Here are the 6 most common ways we do that!

  1. Acting like we’re looking for something in a purse or backpack.
  2. Pretending to be sick by faking a cough so the other person doesn’t initiate the handshake.
  3. Holding our breath and just walking away.
  4. Pretending to get a phone call.
  5. Fist bumping or elbow bumping.
  6. Ignoring the person and not introducing ourselves.
