What’s With The Traffic Near Discovery Park!?

Look for heavy traffic in the area all weekend!

If you have attempted to drive anywhere near the Richards Blvd and I-5 Corridor over the last 12 hours you have probably noticed gnarlier than usual traffic. I certainly hit it on my way into the station today.

It turns out, that chaos is related to two overlapping issues.

The first, according to KCRA 3 is, “The Aftershock rock concert (which) kicks off Friday in front of a sold-out crowd at Sacramento’s Discovery Park. The concert is expected to attract nearly 35,000 people during the three-day run between Friday and Sunday.”

The second issue tying up traffic in the area, “Caltrans is in the middle of a $370 million project to replace or repair parts of I-5 from Elk Grove to the American River bridge,” writes KCRA. “That construction work is happening on the bridge and the Richard’s Boulevard exit.”

While most of the construction is taking place at night, K-rails and cones are scattered about the area and that could add to an already slow drive to and from the show.”

Both Caltrans, and Aftershock organizers are urging people to park at Sleep Train Arena, and take the shuttle to Discovery Park.
