Wait – Taco Bell Is One Of The Healthiest Fast Food Options?

Who would have ever thought that Taco Bell was secretly coming up the rear to become one of the healthiest fast-food options available today?

I mean I love a good taco, but they’re literally good tacos now. I’ve always heard people talk about how Taco Bell is one of the better options, but until this research… I always just thought it was hearsay.

Ok so it hasn’t always been that way, and yes, some options on the menu are better than others. Taco Bell has been making some changes for the healthier over the past few years. Some of the things they’ve done include lowering sodium, and using more natural flavors rather than artificial. With all that said, you still have to make some conscious decisions when you order, you can’t just grab a couple burrito supremes (is that even an item?) and toss your yoga pants. They offer vegan and vegetarian items, as well as smart customizing. Ordering something without cheese, sour cream, or rice makes a difference too.

Here’s a more full list of what Taco Bell has done over the past couple years:
-Reduced sodium across the menu by 15 percent since 2008, with a push to have a total 25 percent reduction soon
-Removed artificial flavors and colors and replaced them with natural alternatives
-Source 100% cage-free eggs for our breakfast menu. Will introduce 100% cage-free egg ingredients into our core menu in 2018.
-Serve chicken raised without antibiotics important to human medicine in U.S. restaurants

Taco Bells nutritionist, Missy Nelson, says “We just really encourage people to customize to however it fits their lifestyle.” So if that means skipping the cheese and sour cream, that’s a healthier option. Truth be told, I wouldn’t have T-Bell without it.
