Viola Davis recently commented on her Oscar-nominated role, in the 2011 film , The Help. In an interview, Davis explained that she had regrets regarding her accepting the role she played in the film.

According to the New York Times, Davis expressed dissatisfaction about how the story and perspectives of the maids in the film weren’t fully acknowledged. “I just felt that at the end of the day that it wasn’t the voices of the maids that were heard,” She explained. “I know Aibileen. I know Minny. They’re my grandma. They’re my mom. And I know that if you do a movie where the whole premise is, I want to know what it feels like to work for white people and to bring up children in 1963, I want to hear how you really feel about it. I never heard that in the course of the movie.”

Although Davis regretted that this message of the film was lost in her opinion, she still expressed gratitude for the opportunity and experience that came with working on The Help. In the interview, Davis was also thankful for the friendships she made during filming, including co-star and Oscar-winner, Octavia Spencer, and the film’s writer and director, Tate Taylor.
