Several people have been asking, “What’s up with the red umbrellas in the tree at Broadway and 34th in Oak Park?”

Here’s your answer.

Sean Rooney, the executive director of the Oak Park Business District, had a whimsical idea. To add a little extra character to the corner Rooney climbed a ladder and zip-tied several umbrellas to the big bare tree.

“It’s quick, it’s easy. We’re not removing trees. Maybe putting a smile on someone’s face, maybe making them think about something – for next to nothing,” Rooney told The Sacramento Bee. “It’s not a new concept. It’s been done all around the world and people love it.”

If you want to check out the display for yourself it will stay up for a month.

I’m going to have to check this out this weekend!
