Uber Stops Testing On Self-Driving Cars After One Kills Pedestrian

Uber discontinued all of its self-driving vehicle testing after a woman was struck by one of the cars and killed. This is reportedly the first incident fatal crash involving the technology.

Uber stopped all of its self-driving vehicle testing after a woman was struck by one of the cars and killed. This is reportedly the first fatal crash involving the new tech.

The self-driving cars were being tested in Phoenix, Pittsburgh, San Francisco, and Toronto, reports AP News. The accident took place in a suburb of Phoenix on Sunday, Mar. 18.

The car was in auto mode with an operator behind the wheel. The woman was walking outside of a crosswalk when she was hit. She died from her injuries in the hospital.

Uber expressed condolences to the victim’s family and are fully cooperating with the law enforcement during the investigation.
