Starting April 2nd, the price of the “execution fee” for a passport will increase from $25 to $35.

In an announcement on state.gov, “Passport execution involves the submission of a passport application in person to a passport acceptance agent for identity verification and document review.”

The fee will be applied to anyone renewing a passport, including children under 16-years-old. The execution fee is in addition to the application fee, which has not changed. That fee runs anywhere from $15 to $110 depending on age and type of passport.

However, there is a way to avoid the hike. If you apply for a renewal by mail you won’t be charged the higher price.
