When the creator of OKCupid was starting out, he and his cohorts were searching for a different way to match singles – one that uses math and hard data to predict compatibility. They came up with a website that uses a question-and-answer system to help people figure out who to date. When they looked at the results, he was surprised by what he found….
There are three main questions that are the best predictors of long-term compatibility (more than religion, politics, etc). These are the questions that can predict if a couple will last, according to data from OKCupid.
- Do you enjoy horror movies?– Seems random, but according to Yagan, it reveals a lot about a person. He says, “The idea of a horror movie, the idea of going and scaring yourself, is some deeply innate thing.”
- Have you traveled alone in a foreign country for fun?– Yagan admits, “Traveling alone in a foreign country to me is like the most horrible possible thing I would ever want to do.”
- Have you ever wanted to chuck it all and live on a sailboat? – What sounds like a dream life for some would be a nightmare for others.
