There’s A ‘Wearable Art’ Competition, And It’s Just As Weird As You Think

One of the most strange fashion shows and competitions I’ve ever heard of is based on art, and some of the designs are just otherworldly.

The wearable art competition happens in New Zealand, and it looks like something out of a Katy Perry music video. Actually now after seeing it, I’m pretty sure this is where a Katy Perry costume idea comes from.

It’s the “World of WearableArt,” and it happens every year, for the past 30 years. It’s in Wellington, New Zealand, and is usually a couple weeks long. During the competition, there’s fashion shows, costume contests, photoshoots, all sorts of things. There have been attendance numbers in the 60,000 range – yeah, that’s a big deal.

There are different “categories” as well. Some based on colors, some based on shapes. There’s a “bizarre-bra” category, sci-fi, “under-the-microscope,” and on and on. It’s just such an interesting thing to look at pictures of. Speaking of pictures, here are some from past events. I have to say, this is an interesting fashion show that I’ve never heard of before, and I think it would be really cool to attend. Just to see all the designs and styles up close.
