The Kitchen Wins Sacramento’s First Michelin Star | Amanda & Darik

It’s been known as THE place to go in town for special occasions such as anniversaries and birthdays.

Now it’s going to be even harder to get into, but will be well worth it.  “The Kitchen”  was awarded  a coveted star by Michelin  on Monday.  It’s the first time has Michelin has honored a Sacramento restaurant.

What is a Michelin star?

Is it like the tire company? Yes! Wikipedia explains:

Michelin Guides (FrenchGuide Michelin [ɡid miʃ.lɛ̃]) are a series of guide books published by the French tire company Michelin for more than a century. The term normally refers to the annually published Michelin Red Guide, the oldest European hotel and restaurant reference guide, which awards up to three Michelin stars for excellence to a select few establishments.[1] The acquisition or loss of a star can have dramatic effects on the success of a restaurant. Michelin also publishes a series of general guides to cities, regions, and countries, the Green Guides.

What makes “The Kitchen” so special?

The Kitchen features a set, seasonal menu at a fixed price. It’s a four course with desert starting at $135/person.  It’s unique because Chef Kelly McCown presents each course, interacs with diners, and you get tour their kitchen!

Three other Sacramento restaurants received awards.  Cannon, Frank Fat’s and Mother won “Bib Gourmand” awards for exceptional restaurants where you can get food and wine for less than $40.

So if you can’t get into or afford The Kitchen, check those out!
