Oh no! Sephora has a new policy that bans shoppers who return items too much. Do you think this might affect you?

Sephora is now using the The Retail Equation (TRE). The service tracks customers’ shopping behavior to find those who abuse store policies. Nylon reports that some big names that already use this system include Best Buy, the Home Depot, Victoria’s Secret, J.C. Penney, and more.

The retailer said in a statement to Racked:

“[The company makes] every effort to accommodate returns, a small fraction of customers take advantage of our policy, in many cases returning more than twice as much merchandise as they purchase. This limits product selection and unfairly impacts other clients.”

Sephora will also let you know if this applies to you:

“When we identify excessive return patterns, we notify those customers that we may limit future returns or exchanges if no proof of purchase is provided.”

Continued abuse of the system can result in a full ban.

The scores in the TRE, however, only apply to individual stores. That means if you do get banned from one Sephora, the ban doesn’t hold in another location.

So at least it’s not all bad!
