Earlier this week, CHP received several calls from drivers on Highway 50 and Highway 99 about of a man on the side of the road flagging down passing vehicles.

On two separate days, the man was spotted stepping in front of cars or waving for drivers to stop. When someone pulled over he tried to get them to buy jewelry or give him cash to buy gas for his SUV with out-of-state license plates.

“The suspect is described as being approximately 25 to 30 years old and of Middle Eastern descent driving a black SUV. CHP advises drivers not to stop if approached and to call 911,” according to The Sacramento Bee.

According to law enforcement it’s a scam that’s recently been playing out on California freeways.
