Sacramento Begins Regional Bike Share Program Today

Today, May 17, marks the official beginning of the Sacramento bike share program! The stations are set up all throughout the area.

Today, May 17, marks the official beginning of the Sacramento bike share program!

Our bike share system is the largest in the country, with completely electric-assist bikes. The bike share hubs are located in East Sacramento, Tahoe Park, Oak Park, Land Park and the Grid.

The program allows you to borrow a bike for a quick errand, commute, or just for fun!

All you have to do is sign up online, or download the Jump Bikes – Bike Share app. Then, search and reserve a bike using the app. You’ll be able to unlock your bike using your phone. After you’re done — and this is important! — leave the bike at one of the installed bike racks near your destination. If your bike isn’t left in the service area (shown on the map), you will be subject to a fine.

The bikes cost $1 for the first 15 minutes, then 7 cents every minute after that. That adds up to a bit over $2 every half hour. There’s also an option for a $30 monthly fee that allows you to use the bike for an hour daily. After that hour, it costs 7 cents a minute. Really not bad at all, especially comparing that to how much gas costs!

There are so many great benefits of this amazing program. Not only does it encourage exercise, but it helps reduce pollution and traffic.
