This is such sad news today. A Sacramento officer was killed in the line of duty last night. Tara O’Sullivan, 26, was shot in North Sacramento.  The suspect is in custody after an 8 hour standoff. She was on the force for just 18 months.

What Happened?

  • It began at 12:00pm yesterday (June 20) with a call about a domestic disturbance on Redwood avenue at North Sacramento.
  • Officers go to the home at 3:30pm.
  • At 6:00pm they go to the home to help the woman get some things out of the home.
  • At 6:10 the man involved in the domestic disturbance goes inside the home and starts firing a rifle outside the house. This is when Officer O’Sullivan was hit.  The suspect continues to shoot at officers.
  • Due to active fire, Officer O’Sullivan, continued to lay in the yard for 45 minutes before Sacramento Police could safely get to her with a Tactical Armored Vehicle.
  • Officer O’Sullivan was then taken to UC Davis Medical Center  where she was pronounced dead after going through surgery.

Who is Tara O’Sullivan?

O’Sullivan was in phase training when she died. She was just a year and a half on the job. She was scheduled to shadow in a couple of weeks, “which basically means she was scheduled to go out on her own.” She was a graduate of Sacramento State.  She is the first Sacramento Officer killed in the line of duty in 20 years.

If you know Officer O’Sullivan please call the studio, we want to honor her memory. The number is 916-766-5969.
