- Washington D.C.
- Oakland, CA
- Baltimore, MD
- Atlanta, GA
- Sacramento, CA
Consumer Reports has this advice or protecting yourself from package theft:
- Let the courier drop off the package inside your home – by signing up for Amazon Key you allow a delivery driver from Amazon to enter your home when you’re not there. It requires that you purchase of a kit on Amazon for around $200, which includes a smart lock and an indoor security camera, so you can keep an eye on your home and record activity.
- Use security cameras – You can install them inside and/or outside your home to watch and record your property. If the cameras are visible thieves might be deterred in the first place.
- Have packages delivered to a lockbox – Amazon offers lockboxes in some of its Whole Foods Market stores and in other locations.
- Give instructions to the package delivery service – UPS and FedEx let you instruct where you would like the drivers to leave a package (back door, with a building superintendent, or with neighbors).
- Sign up for alerts. Some carriers will text or email you an alert when a delivery will be made.
- Require a signature for delivery. Request the retailer to require a signature when delivered to make sure the packages aren’t just dropped off outside a house.
