Due to the heavy smoke still in the air, several Sacramento area schools are remaining closed.

According to KCRA3, UC Davis has cancelled its classes for the second day in a row, because of the smoke from the Camp Fire that is still burning in Butte County. An announcement was made Wednesday morning, and the closure affected both the Davis and Sacramento campuses.

In a Facebook post, UC Davis gave the announcement to its staff and students. “Chancellor May and other campus leaders have heard the community’s concerns. The Chancellor regrets any stress or inconveniences our previous update caused. We are all learning together.”

In addition to UC Davic, Sacramento State had also cancelled its classes on Wednesday for the main and downtown campuses. Several high schools also closed on Wednesday, due to health concerns from the smoke. Both Jesuit High School and St. Francis High School were among those that cancelled classes.

So far, the Camp Fire has burned 135,000 acres and is currently 35 percent contained as of Wednesday morning.
