The Real Reason Millennials Don’t Vote – They Can’t Find Stamps

We’ve always heard that young adults weren’t voting, not even by mail, but one district says it’s because they couldn’t figure out postage stamps.

Ok, this isn’t supposed to get political, one side vs. the other, but to raise awareness. Apparently we need to teach our kids where to get stamps so they can vote with an absentee ballot.

Kids in college – adults over 18 – they qualify for absentee ballots during elections. Maybe they’re going to school in another town not where they grew up. Maybe they don’t have time to get to a voting center with a full class-load. Either way, voting by mail makes it possible. And they really are trying to vote. A voting district in Virginia did the research. They discovered that young adults actually are applying for an absentee ballot, and they’re actually filling them out. That’s where they’re stopping, though.

The part that young adults can’t seem to figure out is where to get a postage stamp. Of course now in California, the return envelopes come with postage prepaid, so there’s no need for a stamp. But in other states and voting districts, you have to supply your own stamp. A woman named Lisa Connors works with the Public Affairs office in a county in Virginia where this study took place. She says “One thing that came up, which I had heard from my own kids but I thought they were just nerdy, was that the students will go through the process of applying for a mail-in absentee ballot, they will fill out the ballot, and then, they don’t know where to get stamps.”

So to make it easy, here’s a comprehensive list of where you can buy stamps, since it’s forgotten information, much like reading a clock:
Walmart.
The bank.
Some ATMs.
Pharmacies.
Office supply stores.
Amazon.
Grocery stores.
Hey, even the POST OFFICE sells stamps. Where else can you think of to buy them?
