Popcorn Salad Anyone?

A picture taken on February 10, 2015 in Paris shows a bowl of popcorn. To most people, it may be just a fun food to munch while watching a movie. But to a couple of French investigators, popcorn is a biomechanical enigma waiting to be explained. In an unusual study published on February 11, engineers Emmanuel Virot and Alexandre Ponomarenko carried out experiments into what makes popcorn, well, pop. Cameras recording at 2,900 frames per second helped show what happened when a kernel of corn strutted its stuff. Have you ever heard of “Popcorn Salad”? Food Network star, Molly Yeh, says it’s “the perfect salad.” It’s been described as similar to macaroni salad, but with popcorn instead of macaroni. Molly Yeh’s recipe calls for popcorn tossed with white cheddar popcorn seasoning and carrots, while celery and sugar snap peas get tossed with a dressing made from mayonnaise, sour cream, apple cider vinegar, Dijon mustard and shallots.  Does it sound delicious or disgusting to you? It definitely sounds “unusual” to me. I’m not a fan of mayo, so I’ll pass on this one. If you’ve tried it, I’d love to hear your review!

Here’s Molly Yeh, sharing the recipe.

I think I’ll enjoy my “popcorn salad” the old fashioned way…..with lots of butter and salt!
