This should go without saying, but don’t take Play-Doh with you when committing a crime. If you still decide to anyway, at the very least make sure you don’t leave it behind with your fingerprint in it…

Unsurprisingly for this would-be shoplifter, these dumb decisions easily lead to his arrest.

According to WTHR 13, a man tried covering anti-theft devices with Play-Doh at a Massachusetts Walmart last month. Why he thought the kids toy would stop the devices from functioning is unclear, but his plan definitely didn’t work.

While the man was able to escape the store before police could catch him, his freedom didn’t last long. As it turns out, the man left a clean fingerprint in the Play-Doh he forgot at the scene.

Although police didn’t find a fingerprint match in their database at first, he was finally identified a month later. The print belonged to 55-year-old Dennis Jackson, and he was already in jail for unrelated crimes in two other states.

Jackson is now facing four additional charges of unlawful removal of an anti-theft device.
