PG&E made the announcement that the company will reimburse customers affected by the Oct. 9 Public Safety Power Shutoff (PSPS).

According to Good Day Sacramento, this reimbursement is reportedly a result of Governor Newsom’s request for action from the energy company. PG&E was widely criticized for its poor handling of the shutoff that affected over 1 million people. With the reimbursement, PG&E will reportedly give a one-time credit of $100 to residential customers and $250 to business customers on their bills.

The company explained that this reimbursement is only for this specific event, “due to the hardship caused by the website and communications issues.” The company also clarified that this is supposedly not because of political pressure. Customers that were affected by the Oct. 9 PSPS will automatically receive a one-time on-bill credit on their account, during their next billing cycle. The funds for these reimbursements will also reportedly come from shareholders and not the customers.
