An Olympic Pole Vaulter From Rocklin Is Going To The Winter Olympics

Nope, that’s not a misprint. Pole vaulting hasn’t become a winter sport. Cale Simmons is going as an athlete service coordinator. The 26 year old Rocklin High School graduate says, “Competing on the world stage at the Olympics is one of the most stressful things I have ever done in my life. The ability to relax, recharge and get away from stressors in an environment like this can make all the difference in being ready for these competitions. I look forward to being that positive influence on the minds of the greatest team in the world – Team USA.”
In 2016, Simmons finished second in Eugene, Oregon at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, but didn’t fare as well in Rio. He finished tied for 28th. But, he’s not giving up. Simmons is training for the 2020 games in Tokyo.
