Walt Disney Studios has just released a full trailer for their upcoming film, Mary Poppins Returns. The movie will serve as a sequel to the 1964 original, that starred Julie Andrews and Dick Van Dyke.
According to US Weekly, the new trailer sets the stage for the new movie, which will feature Emily Blunt taking on the role of Mary Poppins herself. Just like the original classic, Mary Poppins Returns will include its share of musical numbers and live-action mixed with animation. Dick Van Dyke also will be making a return, in a cameo role that has the 92-year-old dancing on a table at one point.
Emily Blunt and Van Dyke will also be joined by Lin-Manuel Miranda, Colin Firth, Meryl Streep, and Angela Lansbury. The musical is being directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago), with the screenplay written by David Magee (Finding Neverland). Julie Andrews was reportedly approached about appearing in the sequel, but declined, saying she wanted Blunt to shine in her role as Mary Poppins and didn’t wish to distract from the other performances.
