And this has been happening since 2014, too. Movies with female character leads seem to be earning more cash when they’re in theaters than men-lead movies. Despite that though, there’s still some pay gap.

When looking at movies and box-office earnings between 2014 and 2017, the discovery was made. Specifically, movies that earned more than $100 million. The average earnings for a movie starring men came in around $514 million. However, the average earnings for female-led flicks came in around $586 million. Not bad, ladies! That also goes for the ratio between female-led movies vs. male-led. There were 245 male-led movies used in the data for the study, and only 105 female-led movies.

The highest-paid actors this year: George Clooney made $239 million, though that isn’t all from acting. He sold his share of the tequila brand Casamigos, so we’ll go to second-highest. Dwayne Johnson earned $124 million, mostly from acting. The highest-paid actress of this year was Scarlett Johansson with just $40.5 million.
