“America’s Got Talent” judge Mel B says she’s checking into rehab after being diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.
“I’ve been working with a writer on my book, Brutally Honest, and it has been unbelievably traumatic reliving an emotionally abusive relationship and confronting so many massive issues in my life,” she reportedly revealed to The Sun. “I am being very honest about drinking to numb my pain but that is just a way a lot of people mask what is really going on.” Mel B went on to say, “Sometimes it is too hard to cope with all the emotions I feel. But the problem has never been about sex or alcohol—it is underneath all that. I am fully aware I have been at a crisis point. No one knows myself better than I do, but I am dealing with it.”
Mel B‘s private life has been making a lot of headlines over the past year. While going through a contentious divorce with Stephen Belafonte she was granted a restraining order against him. There were allegations he physically and verbally abused her as well as threatened to release compromising footage of sexually compromising situations. Belafonte’s legal team denied the claims and the two reportedly agreed on a settlement earlier this month. Mel B also reportedly agreed to drop her abuse charges.
Mel B said she plans to enter a “proper therapy program” in the next few weeks in the U.K. following an “incredibly difficult” past six months.
