[PICTURE] Mattel Is Coming out with Gender Neutral Dolls

While plenty of little girls love to play with Barbie and other dolls, maybe because they see dolls that reflect who they are, young children with gender identity issues don’t necessarily feel the same way, but now things are about to change. Mattel, the company that gave us Barbie, just launched a line of gender-neutral dolls. The dolls, called Creatable World, allows kids to customize dolls the way they see fit, not having to stick to gender norms. The company says the line is designed “to keep labels out and invite everyone in.”
Unlike Barbie and Ken, the dolls do not have curves or broad shoulders, and buyers will have the option to choose whether they have long or short hair. There are six different dolls in the collection, and they all have different skin tones. The doll, which sells for $30, comes with six pieces of clothing and three pair of shoes, as well as gender-neutral accessories.
“Toys are a reflection of culture and as the world continues to celebrate the positive impact of inclusivity we felt it was time to create a doll line free of labels,”Kim Culmore, senior vice president of Mattel fashion doll design, said in a statement. “We’re hopeful Creatable World will encourage people to think more broadly about how all kids can benefit from doll play.” Check out the dolls to the right.Source: Insider
